Forgotten Items

It is easy to forget some small but important things during the exciting moving process. Smart Moves strives to make each customers move as stress-free as possible, so we have supplied a list for you to keep in mind while preparing for your move.

1. Family records - keep this in a secure but available spot in case of any emergencies and so they are easy to find once you are in your new location. Keep in mind that some places that require these documents will not accept copies, and only a notarized copy can work.

  • Doctors records for the entire family

  • Veterinary records for your pet

  • Children's school records

  • Vaccination records
2. Phone numbers - don't forget your old phone books or locations where any numbers might be saved. New locations mean new numbers, so save yourself the stress of possibly forgetting any that you use frequently now and write them all down.

3. Address for new location - surprisingly, people forget their new street address! Make sure its somewhere close to give to any friends and neighbors and also the movers on moving day.

4. Dry cleaning - people often forget about items that they have taken to get repaired or cleaned such as shoes, luggage, dry cleaning, any watches or jewelry, glasses, furs, etc.

5. Hidden items - don't forget those special places in your current location where you might have hidden any valuable or sentimental items. It would be a shame to forget them!

6. Garage door opener - you'd be amazed at how many people move and forget to leave the garage door opener for the new residents.

7. Cleaning supplies - moving can be a dirty job, so make sure to leave some cleaning supplies out for the final touch after your items are loaded. Anything that's been previously opened is great, because you can just throw it away after the final once-over.

8. Children and pets - the moving day can be traumatic for even the calmest of animals, so be sure to leave them at a friend or neighbors or schedule to have them boarded at their veterinary. It will be much easier on them and you. Also, be sure you bring along some games or activities for the kids so they will be occupied during the day and not get bored or stir crazy. Be sure to check in our trip kit for a list of items needed when moving with children.

9. Finances - if you are paying for your move with cash, be sure that you plan ahead for how much it will cost. Many ATMs have a daily withdrawal limit. Also, be sure to set up an account at a bank in your new location. It's one thing less you have to do once you get there.

10. House Keys - don't forget to pick up the spare set of keys that are under the flower pot or that your neighbor has.
